In Costa Rica, the locals say, "Pura Vida" which translates to Pure Life.  And, from what we've seen most people embrace this ideology here.  Locals are friendly, outgoing, have an incredible zest for life and an immense pride in where they live.

Bienvenidos a Costa Rica!

It was a great choice for us to go to Guate first.  Most Guatemalans live a tough life, so there is very little time for recreation and caring about the environment.  It's hard for us to empathize sometimes because we haven't walked in their shoes.  We see trash strewn everywhere, dilapidated and unfinished buildings, an overpopulation of unfed, unwanted animals and an overall rundown area.  It takes awhile to let that go and just see the people and the country for what it is...colorful, real, hospitable, filled with hardworking, genuine people.

Costa Rica is definitely a step-up in wealth and it is obvious in the care that we see in the environment.  In some ways, it is a really nice change.  To walk on the beach and not see trash, to drive on well-maintained roads, and to experience ecological areas everywhere is a sight for sore eyes.
